This year, under the theme of "The Environment and our Future," Women's Federation UK held it's annual "Artists for Peace" Contest Award Ceremony, an event showcasing artwork from children aged 5-15. With a great turnout of submissions, the ceremony featured many young artists who uploaded their artwork in advance via the "Artists for Peace" facebook page.
Led by Emcee Dawn Pollitt, the program included a guest speaker, Karen Grant, who spoke on the importance of connecting to nature as an inspiration for art, as well as the importance of sustaining the environment for future generations through taking proper stewardship.
A video collating all of the entries was played and displayed the beautiful breadth and depth of mediums chosen and themes displayed by the young artists.
The judges, Chris Bennett and Romika Jones, found it very difficult to narrow down the entries and select the winners in each age category. However, there were 9 winners in total—each winner receiving a cash prize for their submission.
Each winner was able to say a few words about their particular artwork piece and why they chose to create what they did. It was very moving to see how some took everyday experiences as their inspiration, whilst others chose to create based on their own imagination. Each and every art piece displayed a delicate balance of theme, detail, and, most importantly, love.
At the end of the event, there was a live poll taken by the children on what theme they wanted to have for next year's contest. We are happy to announce that they chose the theme "My Dream."
The event concluded with the words of WFWP UK's own Alla Zubovskis, who has spearheaded the annual contest since it started in 2019. She urged all young contestants to keep on creating and making a positive impact on the world through their art.
WFWP UK looks forward to next year's contest, so don't forget to spread the word to all young, budding artists of peace!
