We decided to focus on faiths during this year of the coffee mornings. On January 28th we started with Unificationism presented by Taeko Duckworth. Again on the 18th of February Taeko concluded the Unificationist presentation where also Father Moon’s autobiography ‘As a peace loving citizen’ was introduced.
On the 25th March Sugi Kuha-kumaran from Sri Lanka gave a presentation about what Hinduism means in her life.
Each of the presentations that were given had some deep discussions and chances to ask questions to the speaker.
We had a presentation from the Jewish tradition by Julie Cass on the 6th of May. Julie Cass shared how she converted to Judaism after marrying her husband who is Jewish. She had to study very hard and one Rabbi helped and supported her very much.
On the 27th of May we heard a talk on Islam by Sarab. Instead of just hearing theoretically about Islam, Sarab shared what Islam means in her life and why it is important to her.
On the 24th of June we had another presentation on Buddhism by Tammy. Again we had a very deep discussion and time to ask Tammy questions about the Buddhist faith and what Buddhism means in her life.
After this coffee morning we had two months breaks during the summer.
Again we gathered on the 30th of September hearing a presentation on Hinduism, especially about the festival of Diwali by the Vice Chair of Harrow Interfaith Punitha Perinparja.
On the 21st of October we had a smaller gathering centred on Unificationism again. Taeko Duckworth read from Father Moon’s Autobiography followed by discussions and sharing.
We had a presentation on the 25th of November by Veena Shah on the Jain tradition. It was interesting to hear how Veena tries to adapt to Jain religion in her own life and also facing struggles to pass on her faith to her children.
On Friday the 9th of December we had a Celebration of all Faiths and a small Graduation Ceremony where the participants received a certificate. The meeting was concluded with a pot luck lunch, and nice sharings and discussions.
Overall in 2011 it has been an interesting and fruitful Women of Faith Coffee Mornings. It was decided that next year 2012 coffee mornings will be focused on to finish off the Interfaith Tapestry and have a large Interfaith Ceremony where the Tapestry will be presented.
The first coffee morning of the New Year will be held on the 13th of January at 10am in Agneta’s house. After that the coffee mornings will be held on the last Friday of every month. The Tapestry will be sent home weekly to different ladies to speed up the progress of the sewing.
In conclusion we want to wish everybody a Happy and Peaceful New Year of 2012.
Lots of Love,
Agneta
