We decided to focus on faiths during this year of the coffee mornings. On January 28th we started with Unificationism presented by Taeko Duckworth. Again on the 18th of February Taeko concluded the Unificationist presentation where also Father Moon’s autobiography  ‘As a peace loving citizen’ was introduced.

bouquet-of-flowersDressed in blue, Margaret Ali started the evening off by first welcoming everyone to not only a Christmas celebration, but also a winter celebration, where Eid, Diwali, and Hanukah are commemorated as well as Christmas.

She then introduced Dolores Read, who gave an overview of WFWP’s events over the past year. From a talk about reflexology to a coffee morning on classical composers, WFWP’s South London branch definitely had a lot of events going on in just one year.

Afterwards everyone put their hands together to welcome Louisa Woodley, councillor for Thornton Heath area in London. She talked about the various campaigns she has been involved in, including involvement as a Trade Unionist.

Ashley Crosthwaite proceeded to talk about the Destiny Junior School in Uganda, to which he and WFWP have been hugely contributing to. According to statistics, only 45% of children in Uganda are able to receive the education they need.

Mrs. Mitty Tohma, the President of the British WFWP welcomed the Chinese Delegation to Lancaster Gate and introduced the aims of the WFWP.
Women’s Human Rights are very important to the WFWP. the organisation was founded in April, 1992, and the WFWP activities have been developed in four main areas.
Firstly we are concerned with Family Ethics, because we consider the family to be the cornerstone for peace in the community and nation.
Secondly we are dealing with Poverty Eradication and Service programmes as seen in our ongoing projects worldwide.
Thirdly we are working with Peace and Reconciliation activities, particularly through the Bridge of Peace Ceremony, as well as projects with the United Nations and different international N.G.O’s.
Finally we are holding seminars encouraging Global Women’s Leadership in public office.
